Abstract: The article addresses the annuity contract under the Venezuelan legal system. It is a matter timidly developed by local doctrine, in contrast to the abundant treatment of the Spanish legal commentators that differentiates it from the lifetime tenure or the maintenance and alimony contract. Reference is made to the notion, background, sources, characters, constitution, elements, effects and extinction, concluding that this contract is usually reduced in cases of hyperinflation as Venezuelan’s, but it should not be ignored that the idea that covers this type of contract could solve important concrete needs.

Key words: annuity; periodic pension; alimony; death.
